Ch= airman Liles called the meeting to order at 5:01 p.m. and began the meeting with t= he Pledge of Allegiance.

l. Administrative

As= king for public input on agenda items and hearing none, Chairman Liles asked for a motion to approve the regular minutes of= the May 12, 2008 meeting. Motion = made by Commissioner Paterson; second by Commissioner Buttino. Motion carried. Motion made by Commissioner Paters= on to approve wire transfers and transfers between accounts; seconded by Commissi= oner Fitzgerald. Motion carried.

ll. Chiefs’ Reports

Chief Kinsey

A = CERT class ends June 12. Eight peo= ple will be graduating. A new class will start on June 24^th.

A committee was formed to interview firefighters for two positions. The second interview will be on Ju= ne 18^th with the firefighters and their families.

We= have included a calendar of events to keep the commissioners updated with what is going on in the department.

Th= e Bronco has been sold for $1,000.00.

Ni= cole Giuliano has accepted the position of the USAR PIO (Public Information Officer).

Assistant Chief Craft

Assistant Chief Craft gave a recap = of the incident responses, times and individual unit responses. He noted that functional consolida= tion with Estero Fire

De= partment is progressing, specifically unit responses with AVL (closest district response) was implemented and has been very successful in sending and recei= ving units between the districts.

On= e fire protocol was released with four more in draft form.

Deputy Chief Joe Daigle

Th= e EMS Division has acquired five Cyanokit from the State to be utilized by firefighters to treat cyanide poisoning and smoke inhalation injuries.=

Tr= aining consisted of practical scenarios in environmental emergencies.

Th= ere are 32 paramedics on line and 45 EMT’s.

Deputy Chief Shane Sibert<= /p>

Tr= aining Update: The Bonita Springs Fi= re Control & Rescue District water rescue members attended the US Coast Gu= ard course “Rules of the Road” hosted by Sanibel.=

BS= FD and the USAR Task Force 6 recertified members in confined space rescue operatio= ns and trench rescue operations.

The Special Operations Division has been working toward the completion of rope rescue ops training which would bring members to operational level.

The Department hosted the LCSO Special Operations Unit monthly training that included “high angle rope rappelling” and medical block trainin= g.

Th= e Hazmat Department was called out to assist with decontamination at an incident an = East Lee County school.=

Fire Marshal Tim Fernandez=

Fi= re Marshal Fernandez gave the board a re-cap of occupancy inspections, re-inspections, new construction inspections, permit inspections, hydrant f= ire flows, plan review and new building inspections.

Th= ere will be two workshops regarding the City of Bonita Springs having their own Community Development Department. Fire Marshal Fernandez plans on attending both meetings.<= /span>

Ma= nna Christian RV Park had a dumpster fire in which Station Four responded. The fire was reported by the fire = watch patrol at the park.

The department donated a water pressurized fire extinguisher which will be util= ized in conjunction with their dry chemical fire extinguisher. Additional training was provided.<= o:p>

Co= mmissioner Fitzgerald commented that there is not adequate water supply to put out a f= ire at Manna Christian nor are there any hydrants. There are approximately 250 families with 1,000 people living there.&n= bsp; Commissioner Fitzgerald would like the Department to write a letter = to Bonita Springs Utilities putting pressure on them to install hydrants on th= at side of the street. Chief Kin= sey stated he would investigate the issue and report back to the board.

Ch= ief Kinsey stated there were three items accidentally omitted from his report.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'> The first is that Martha Simons is= now the liaison from the City with the Fire Department and will be attending meetings.

Th= e joint meeting to discuss the “short list” of RFP’s will be held here at Station Four at 7:00 p.m. on June 17^th.

Th= e new video equipment is being installed and could potentially be ready to use at next months meeting.

lll. OLD BUSINESS=

Co= mmissioner Paterson stated that at last month’s meeting when they passed the firefighter pension resolution, Commissioner Conforti suggested that the Pension Board consider increasing the disability dollar amount. Commissioner Paterson stated there= was a pension meeting subsequent to this board meeting and there was not an overwhelming desire to raise that amount, but it was pointed out there is additional disability insurance if you are disabled and social security benefits are available as well. Administrative Director Roman stated that short and long term disabi= lity is also available. Commission= er Fitzgerald felt it was not the board’s concern to become involved in decisions the Pension Board makes. <= /span>

IV. NEW BUSINESS=

Di= sposition Report: Commissioner Conforti made a motion to accept the disposition report of June, 2008. Second by Commissioner Buttino.&nbs= p; Motion carried.

Ch= ief Kinsey gave a brief description of the cost to redesign Station Five’= s third bay. A motion to accept the $18,460.00 charges for the change to the thi= rd bay was made by Commissioner Fitzgerald; second by Commissioner Conforti. Motion carried.<= /p>

The special dates for the budget workshops are included in with the board packets. The first meetings w= ill be held in August.

V. PUBLIC INPUT=

Al= ex Grant asked how many of the fire calls the department went on last year were two alarm calls. Assistant Chief = Craft stated that he would have to go back and research the calls but that there = were calls where North Naples, Estero, San Carlos and Ft. Myers Beach were called in to assist.

VI. COMMISSIONER’S BUSINESS=

Co= mmissioner Fitzgerald stated that the newspapers said the Department was going to hire four additional firefighters. Chief Kinsey stated that was incorrect in that the Department is moving two inspectors into two firefighter positions and also hiring two new firefight= ers to fill the gap of one firefighter who is no longer with the Department and= one to bring the staffing level up to what was stated in the Strategic Plan. The staffing is being brought back= up to minimum level.

Ch= ief Kinsey gave a brief description of Chief Laskey’s seminar that will b= e held at Station Four on Friday and Satu= rday, June 13^th and 14^th.&= nbsp; He noted Chief Laskey is well known in the fire service for his presentation on pride and ownership in the fire service and how to spark enthusiasm and regenerate people’s attitudes in the fire service.

Co= mmissioner Liles asked if the dead trees and shrubs at Station 1 would be replaced. Chief Kinsey said the Department is getting bids and will report to the board.
